St David's Hospice are an important charity in the local community. In this guest blog, they share a bit about their work and how gifts in Wills can support that.
St David’s Hospice is a local charity, caring for local people, delivering specialist care to adult patients with advanced illnesses or those in need of end of life care and their families. Every year, this touches the lives of over 1000 people within our local communities across the counties of Conwy, Gwynedd and Anglesey.
The hospice offers 24 hour care, 365 days a year providing a clinical service alongside emotional, physical and spiritual support. The Hospice Therapy Centre provides patient care, bereavement and counselling services, whilst the Inpatient Unit offers symptom control, respite and end of life care.
Each year, it costs over £3 million to deliver services which equates to over £8,000 a day. Over 84% of the hospices income must be fund-raised since only around 14% is received by the Local Health Board. This leaves the enormous task of raising in excess of £2.5 million pounds per year.
A gift in your Will can make a huge difference
One in three patients at St David’s Hospice is funded by people leaving a gift in their will. If it wasn’t for this wonderful way of giving, St David’s Hospice simply would not exist.

“The generosity of the communities we serve is something quite spectacular. People give to St David’s Hospice in so many ways; through shopping in our retail outlets, joining our weekly lottery, attending an event or giving a donation. We are also incredibly grateful to those who remember us in their Will with gifts of all sizes. Every penny the hospice receives now and in the future makes a huge difference to our clinical work”.
