Our approach
Wills and probate work often comes at a sensitive time, whether you're planning for the future or dealing with loss. We take the time to explain things clearly, and won't rush you through decisions that deserve proper thought.
Frequently asked questions
Do you charge a percentage of the estate for probate?
No. We charge for the work we do on a probate matter, but we never add a percentage of the value of the estate or the property, which some firms do. Ask us for a clear quote based on your circumstances.
Do I need a Lasting Power of Attorney?
An LPA lets someone you trust make decisions for you if you're ever unable to — for finances, health, or both. It's worth having in place well before it's needed, not after.
More about these services
Will writing
A will sets out who inherits your estate, who should look after any children, and who you'd like to administer your affairs. Without one, the law decides for you, which doesn't always reflect what you'd have wanted. If you're separating or divorcing, updating your will is especially important — see our divorce guide.
Lasting Powers of Attorney
An LPA lets you choose someone you trust to make decisions on your behalf — over your finances, or your health and welfare — if you're ever unable to make them yourself. It's worth putting in place well before it's needed. See our guide to lasting powers of attorney.
Estate planning
Thinking ahead about how your estate will be passed on, including inheritance tax planning, can reduce complications and costs for the people you leave behind. We are not authorised to give tax advice, so for Inheritance Tax planning you should also take advice from an accountant or tax adviser.
Probate and estate administration
After a death, probate is the legal process of gathering in the estate, paying any debts and tax, and distributing what's left according to the will (or the rules of intestacy). We can handle as much or as little of this as you'd like.
Dealing with intestacy
If someone dies without a valid will, strict legal rules decide who inherits — which can produce results the person wouldn't have chosen. We help families navigate the intestacy process and administer the estate correctly.
Inheritance disputes
Disagreements over a will or an estate — whether about its validity, or a claim that reasonable provision wasn't made for someone — are sensitive as well as legal matters. We advise both those bringing and defending such claims. Read more about contested wills and inheritance disputes.
